MDSD – National Network on Model-Driven Software Development (2008)

In the Software Engineering field, Model-Driven Software Development (MDSD) is a software development paradigm where models replace code as the central artifact of the development process. Working at a high level of abstraction improves productivity and quality, eases portability to new platforms and reduces maintenance costs, among other benefits. MDE and MDSD techniques are used in a wide variety of industries, from automotive, telecommunications, banking, embedded systems, etc. As a starting point, previous scientific networks have allowed to create an active community in MDE and establish collaboration links, evidenced for example in the existence of a thematic track in the Spanish Conference on Software Engineering and Databases (JISBD).

This network aims to consolidate this community by bringing together research groups and companies in the field of MDE and exploring the main scientific and technical challenges in this area: scalability, usability, construction and integration of tools, new application fields, etc.

This network has two main priorities. First, to promote the scientific excellence of the MDE community, e.g., by expanding international collaborations and projects. Secondly, to consolidate the adoption of MDE technologies at industrial level, through initiatives such as the realization of industrial doctorates or the participation in business clusters and technological platforms. The planned actions include semiannual meetings, short stays between researchers of the network, visits of international researchers, a summer school for students and young researchers on MDE and a portal aimed at fostering collaborations with companies. To encourage internationalization and maximize its impact, some of these actions will be linked to international scientific events organized by members of the network.
